Thanks to everyone who has contributed, we were able to purchase a plane ticket for Evander for around $875.
He will be flying out of Toronto on November 11, 2014 and will land in Tokyo on November 12, 2014

Imagine a martial art student training at a school in the middle of nowhere fighting at one of the largest amateur full contact fighting tournament in the world.
Press Release: Evander Russ – Team USA Kudo Competition Member
My name is Mong Phu and I would like to introduce my student Evander Russ. He has been training with me for over 3 years and is one of my most loyal, dedicated, humble and talented students that I have ever trained.
Evander came from a broken home and is currently finishing his Bachelor Degree at SUNY Oswego. He will be the 1st member in his family to graduate from a Bachelor Degree program.
He is a classic underdog story of working hard, preserving in the face of an obstacle and staying on the right path.
As mentor and martial art instructor I have no greater pleasure than to make an impact on my student’s life. But little do they know, they are also making one on mine.
What is Kudo/空道?
KUDO/ 空道is a comprehensive full-contact martial art based on empty-handed strikes – always assuming real fights using direct attacks such as “punches” and “kicks” and in addition, allowing you to use “throws”, “chokes” and “joint locks”. Kudo International Federation is proud to the 4th World KUDO Championships on November 14th, 15th, and 16th at Yoyogi National Stadium, 2nd Gymnasium (Tokyo, Shibuya).
What We Need To Achieve This
- we need 1 airline ticket to Japan – approximate cost $1000 each
- travel Expense – Taxi, Subways – approximate cost $500
- hotel and accommodation – approximate cost of $1000
- food – approximate cost $500
- unforeseen miscellaneous – approximate cost of $1000
