Sebastian Cushman @ 7th Annual Sensei Jim Grafe Memorial Karate Tournament

I would like to congratulate Sebastian Cushman, a 6th grader at the Lyons School District After School Martial Arts Program jointly funded by the Wayne 21st Century and Advantage After School Program. Sebastian competed in the 7th Annual Sensei Jim Grafe Memorial Karate Tournament. Sebastian was one of 4 students invited to be part of the Young Lions Competition Team early in February 2009. He always showed enthusiasm and commitment to excellence to his martial arts training, never missing a class or Saturday training session.

Unfortunately, Sebastian was match up with much more experience competitor and finish the fight earlier due to 2 round house kick to the left thigh. Sebastian came in third place in the Beginner boys 10-12 years old Full Contact division (also known as Semi Full Contact Kyokushin Karate – due to the use of headgear and gloves).
