SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane Police said a man used a knife to fight off four attackers who tried to rob him in Hillyard on Thursday.

At approximately 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a 50-year-old man was walking near Wabash and Regal when he saw a group of younger males approaching him, and he crossed the street to avoid them. They crossed the street and approached him.

Spokane Police Sgt. J.D. Anderson reported that one of the men said, “You got money for us.” The older man said he did not have any money. The men responded, “No, you’ve got money for us!” Then they attacked him. While he was down on the ground, and being beaten, he was able to access a knife to defend himself. He wounded two of the attackers and they ran off. The victim of the attack received possible facial fractures and had lacerations to his left hand.

Spokane Police report there were several witnesses. One witness observed four to five males kicking and hitting the male on the ground several times. The witness stated, “One guy was holding the guy by his hair, and one other guy was hitting him under the chin. I thought they were going to kill him.”

Suspects were wearing new red hats and all-black clothing.

The four suspects are Devron Parrish, 23, who was stabbed in the abdomen and required surgery. He is still in an area hospital.

Patrick McKenzie, 25, was cut on the leg, received stitches, and was booked into the Spokane Jail.

A 16-year-old was booked into Juvenile Detention. Another 16-year-old suspect is still outstanding, but known, while the investigation continues.
