Flinch Cover/Default Position

14. Feb, 2010 · Filed Under Inspiration, Youtube Video, reality base self defense (rbsd)

I have been looking for something like this for a very long time. I compilation of flinch response cover/Default Position. Lee Morrison of Urban Combative have done a pretty good job of presenting all the major flinch response cover – Default Position – I hope to expand on his list by adding supplementary Youtube videos and other details in the next couple of days about all these position.

I was first exposed to the Flinch Response indirectly when I was watching some of Paul Vunak‘s Rapid Assault Tactics (R.A.T.) DVD on employing the Straight Blast to set up more attack on your attacker back in late 2000. In his video he explained the 3 responses someone would have against the Straight Blast which are:

  1. Cover
  2. Retreat with hand extended
  3. Turn side way into a standing fetal position

At the time, I did not understand the significance of the natural flinch response as I was still a beginner in my martial journey. As of late (the last 5 years) I started teaching more and more martial arts techniques base of the natural flinch response.  I hope to post a few videos of some of the new tactics and strategies that I have been working on very soon. In the meantime, make sure you bookmark this web page – Natural Flinch Response

Thought Provoking Quote

Take 5 minutes and ponder each quote .... relax and think of how it's lesson could be applied to your situation....

"Only one who devotes himself to a cause with his whole body and soul can be a true master. For this reason, mastery demands all of a person."

Testimonial

I personally attended and participated in all of the classes Mong provided to the USA-IFKK. I would like to strongly profess that Mong is a qualified, knowledgeable, and empathetic instructor. I witnessed him work with classes of twenty students or more and classes as small as four students. He has the ability to quickly read the class and modify his lesson on the fly to meet the needs of his students. For each class Mong arrived with a set of objectives and a general plan. His general plan allowed for beginner and advanced students. Each class was made of students with varied levels of ability, yet each class ended with new skills and insight for everyone. All classes had one common theme, safety. Mong passed along years of experience in several lessons. He demonstrated each technique, showed the dangers of not doing a technique right, and shared stories of what could go wrong when teaching techniques to students.
